  The script of video. •   Could you please introduce yourself? My name is Javier. I’m 48 years old, and I’ve been working at Pierre Fabre Oncology in Spain for 14 years.  •    What is your professional background before being an MSL?  The first 5 years at Pierre Fabre, I worked as a Key Account Manager, in charge of sales and market access responsibilities, until I jumped to MSL 9 years ago. Before Pierre Fabre, I worked in 2 other pharmaceutical companies, also as a Key Account Manager.  •    How would you define the MSL role? The MSL is the scientific reference for the Key Opinion Leaders in everything related to our drugs, pharmacology and mechanism of action, treatment management, new data provided by research, clinical development, etc… In addition, I would like to highlight the cross-functional work with other departments of Pierre Fabre Oncology.  •    What do you like about being an MSL? I like so much being able to exchange relevant information with healthcare professionals and discuss with them. Internally, I also like playing an important role at a transversal level. For example, by participating in an international mentoring program.  •    What is the most difficult thing for you about being an MSL? Sometimes it’s complicated to balance office time and time on field. Furthermore, when you are responsible for several pathologies, maintaining a high level of scientific knowledge requires a great effort.  •    What is the essential quality of an MSL for you? High qualification, objectivity, resilience, perseverance, versatility and teamwork.  •    What motivates you to get up in the morning as an MSL? The pride of working for a company which help patients in their fight against cancer, and secondly, in line with the Pierre Fabre’s values: “Every time we care for a single person, we make the whole world better”.  •    What is your most beautiful emotion experienced as an MSL? I remember experiencing firsthand the presentation of positive data on the treatment of CRC, at ESMO Barcelona 2019, which we were published that same day.  •    Any words or advice for someone wanting to become an MSL? It's a very demanding but dynamic job, which for sure will allow you to fulfill yourself on a daily basis and grow professionally, so…. go for it!     Know more about MSL

Colorectal Cancer Facts and Figures 1.9 million Is approximately the number of cases diagnosed annually, of which 520,000 are diagnosed in Europe.1 More than 3 million Estimated number of new cases globally per year by 2040.2 Increase in adults under 50 years old Number of cases under 50’s has been rising by about 1.5% each year since the 90s.3 Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide with more than 1.9 million new cases in 2022.1 It is also the 2nd most deadly cancer in the world with over 900 000 deaths in 2022.1 Pierre Fabre Laboratories’ commitment to colorectal cancer As in previous years, Pierre Fabre Laboratories are committed once again to raising public awareness of CRC prevention and screening, and to supporting the actions carried out by patient associations through the Blue March campaign "The wonderful colon". The objective of the “Wonderful Colon” campaign  Our objective is to invite the general public to take part in an immersive experience to discover this wonderful and not well-known organ and how to take care of it.  Through a deliberately positive and playful approach, the user will be able to learn more about how this organ works, why and how to take care of it, before tackling the subject of colorectal cancer, from its detection to its treatment. It is important to raise awareness around reducing the risk and early diagnosis of CRC as early detection results in better outcomes than if diagnosed after the disease has metastasized.2  There are a range of everyday actions and activities that can help reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.4 Whatever their habits, lifestyle choices or individuality, everyone can do something to participate in CRC prevention and screening.   The script of the video.   •    Could you please introduce yourself? My name is Stijn van Oirschot, and I’m 28 years old, and I work as an MSL in the Netherlands for around ten months now. •    What is your professional background before being an MSL?  I’m a biomedical scientist by training, and after my studies, I started working at the clinical department of a pharmaceutical company and a clinical research organization. I mainly worked as a clinical research associate. •    How would you define the MSL role? I see the MSL as a bridge between the company and the healthcare providers. As an MSL, you gather a scientific information and support clinical research. •    What do you like about being an MSL? I like the diversity of the MSL role. On one day you can discuss scientific data gaps with a physician and on another day you can plan the launch of a new product or a clinical trial. •    What is the most difficult thing for you about being an MSL? It can be difficult to maintain all the different relationships and come up with innovative ideas to collaborate with healthcare professionals. •    What is the essential quality of an MSL for you? Be able to offer support both internally and externally, and being flexible. •    What motivates you to get up in the morning as an MSL? It is very motivating as an MSL to keep learning new medical insights and scientific information every day. Furthermore, connecting with a variety of people can be very rewarding. •    What is your most beautiful emotion experienced as an MSL? I’m proud of our team. We completed six successful project or clinical trial. For example, only recently, we could share the news to a physician that a new clinical trial looking into ctDNA levels in melanoma. •    Any words or advice for someone wanting to become an MSL? Be eager to keep learning new things, and be willing to work flexible, both individually, as within a team.     Know more about MSL
